The recent meeting of the Local Consultative Forum marked a significant step forward in advancing socio-economic cohesion and environmental sustainability for the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities. Through the Forum, USAID’s Recycling Matters Activity – Gračanica/Graçanicë brings together community representatives and local stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue and develop strategies to achieve shared goals.

During the session, plans were outlined to expand the recycling models, reaching an additional 250 households, 40 businesses, and three local schools. These efforts aim to integrate more community members into sustainable waste management practices, fostering both environmental and economic benefits. Discussions also highlighted upcoming training programs designed to raise awareness of health risks, enhance waste-handling skills, and open doors to social entrepreneurship opportunities. These initiatives will play a vital role in supporting informal waste collectors and newly registered businesses, creating a foundation for long-term sustainability.

A highlight of the forum was the collaboration with private sector partners. The Activity aims to facilitate the signing of at least an additional five memorandums of understanding, ensuring these communities have access to the resources and support needed to thrive. This partnership-driven approach reflects a commitment to inclusivity, economic empowerment, and environmental progress.
