Call for Applications: Training and Internship Programme for Journalism Students on Monitoring Public Procurement
Democracy Plus (D+) invites Journalism students to apply for a program aimed at preparing young journalists to monitor public spending through public procurement procedures.
Approximately 20 students will be selected to participate in a two-day workshop on monitoring public procurement. Following the workshop, three (3) participants will be selected for a three-month internship at D+, during which they will prepare and publish an investigative article related to public contracting.
For this purpose, the program consists of two phases:
Phase I – Two-day Workshop
Around 20 Journalism students will be selected to participate in a two-day workshop, where they will learn:
- How to analyze public tenders using investigative journalism approaches.
- How to identify irregularities and corruption risks in procurement processes.
- How to use the e-Procurement platform for data-driven research.
- How to recognise risk indicators (“red flags”) that may signal integrity breaches.
- How to analyse public documents for investigative reporting purposes.
Phase II – Internship for Three (3) Selected Students
Following the workshop, three (3) participants will be selected from the group based on their engagement and performance during the workshop to take part in a three-month internship (May–July 2026) at D+, with a monthly compensation of 190.48 € (Gross).
During the internship, under the mentorship of D+ researchers, students will:
- Research public procurement procedures with potential irregularities.
- Analyse tender documents for investigative reporting purposes.
- Identify corruption risks and integrity gaps in procurement processes.
- Prepare and publish one investigative article on public procurement through D+.

Students in Journalism (with an interest in investigative reporting and monitoring public institutions).
