The Community in Suhareka for a Cleaner and More Sustainable Environment
A workshop titled “Environmental Sustainability and the ndreqe.com platform” was held in Suhareka, bringing together a diverse group of participants, including representatives of local NGOs, environmentalists, young activists, and high school teachers. The aim of this activity was to create a space for discussion and exchange of ideas regarding the environmental challenges faced by the local community, as well as to identify concrete ways to address them.
During the workshop, participants discussed a range of issues related to waste management, air and water pollution, the lack of green spaces, and the need for better maintenance of public areas. It was emphasized that these challenges require not only institutional intervention, but also greater engagement from citizens, especially young people, who play a key role in promoting sustainable practices and raising community awareness.
A special focus was placed on the importance of education, both formal and non-formal, in building a more responsible environmental culture. Participants discussed the need for greater integration of environmental topics into school curricula, as well as empowering young people through practical activities and community initiatives. In this context, the role of media literacy in identifying and combating misinformation related to environmental issues was also highlighted, helping citizens make informed decisions.
During the activity, participants had the opportunity to learn more about the ndreqe.com platform, which serves as a practical tool for reporting community issues. Through concrete demonstrations, it was shown how citizens can report problems such as illegal dumpsites, public lighting issues, or infrastructure damage, thereby directly contributing to the improvement of public spaces and increasing institutional accountability.
The discussions highlighted the importance of cooperation between institutions, civil society, and citizens in achieving sustainable and long-term changes in environmental protection.
This activity was organized במסגרת the project “Green Media Literacy for Sustainable Communities”, part of the BOOST Balkans project, funded by the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
