Youth in Five Municipalities of Kosovo Engage for a More Sustainable Environment
Democracy Plus (D+) has so far organized 15 information sessions with young people across five municipalities in Kosovo: Istog, Kamenica, South Mitrovica, Suhareka, and Fushë Kosova. These activities gathered a total of 384 young participants, including 225 girls and 159 boys, creating spaces for discussion and learning on environmental issues and the role of media literacy.
During the sessions, participants were introduced to key topics related to environmental protection, sustainable lifestyles, waste management, and the impact of misinformation on public perceptions of environmental issues. Through interactive discussions and practical examples, young people were encouraged to reflect on their role as informed and active citizens in promoting sustainable practices within their communities.
A special focus was placed on developing skills to identify and analyze information related to environmental issues, emphasizing the importance of media literacy in combating misinformation. The participants showed strong interest in the topics discussed, actively engaging in conversations and sharing their perspectives and concerns regarding local environmental challenges.
An interactive component of the sessions was the educational game “Test the Truth Detector,” through which participants had the opportunity to test their ability to distinguish between accurate and false information, particularly in the context of environmental issues. These activities aimed not only to increase knowledge, but also to empower young people to take concrete actions in their communities by sharing accurate information, engaging in local initiatives, and promoting more environmentally responsible behaviors.
📌These activities were organized within the framework of the project “Green Media Literacy for Sustainable Communities”, part of the BOOST Balkans project, funded by the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
